Trevarno
Enjoy a day out visiting Trevarno Estate and Gardens near Helston, an official World Heritage Site visitor attraction. Explore the magnificent 70 acres gardens, grounds and woodland walks which date back to 1246. There's an abundance of wildlife. Follow the progress of major restoration projects and visit the remarkable National Museum of Gardening, featuring the country’s largest and most comprehensive collection of gardening antiques and memorabilia.
For the children there is an exciting and extensive play area secluded in woodland where they can let off steam in safety. There is also a recently completed 2km Estate Walk, which passes alongside the National Daffodil Collection Show garden, Santa's resident reindeer herd and an ambitious steam railway restoration project. Visit the Organic Herbal Workshop and learn about Trevarno’s unique handmade organic skincare and soap products and see the fascinating Soap Museum. There is also a vintage toy museum (small additional charge, payable direct).
National Maritime Museum
Known for celebrating the sea, boats and Cornwall this award winning attraction now offers you the chance to explore 'Under the Sea'. Dive into a world of shipwrecks, see the very first submarine, peer inside a hyperbaric chamber, experience the history of diving, delve into a diving bell and see what it takes to live, work and play in our oceans. From Feb 2010 look out for 'Life on the Rocks', a new major exhibition illuminating the story of lighthouses. With breathtaking views from the 29m tower, an underwater viewing tidal zone, hands-on interactives, talks, changing exhibitions, lectures and activities for all the family – you’ll find more than you might expect.
